Who is the EDC?
The Economic Development Corporation (EDC) of Kansas City, Missouri, was created in 1987 as a 501c4 non-profit agency to manage the efforts of six statutory redevelopment agencies, and to serve as Kansas City, Missouri’s link to business and the economic development community. The EDC and our agencies work cooperatively to project a local identity and ensure a competitive, vibrant and self-sustaining economy. We also collaborate with the City of KCMO and other organizations and rely on our talented, technologically advanced, diverse workforce to achieve these goals.

How the EDC Works with the City of KCMO
The city of Kansas City, Missouri, contracts with the EDC to perform economic development services. The EDC also staffs the Tax Increment Financing Commission, the Downtown Economic Stimulus Authority, the Land Clearance for Redevelopment Authority, the Enhanced Enterprise Zone Boards, the Port Authority and the EDC Loan Corporation.
What We Do
A team of professionals with vast experience in land development, business recruitment, banking and civic leadership works together to achieve top-line growth for Kansas City. Our focus is on job growth, investment, tax revenues, sustainable development and the ongoing beautification of Kansas City, Missouri, as a locale that is attractive to businesses looking to relocate and/or expand their presence here.
The EDC provides a “one-stop-shop” for business and individuals who need support – financial and otherwise – in order to develop or renovate commercial and residential property.
A staff of 30 EDC employees operates in two distinct, yet collaborative business groups:
- Business Retention & Recruitment Solutions – a variety of assistance for Kansas City, Missouri, companies, including site location; permitting/regulatory help; access to information about the city; and linkage to a network of local and state agencies, real estate professionals, financial institutions, utilities and other business experts. Acting as an advocate for small and large businesses, our team of professionals helps companies overcome challenges and capitalize on growth and expansion opportunities.
- Development & Revitalization Services – assistance to business, developers and neighborhoods pursuing development and renovation opportunities in Kansas City, Mo. A knowledgeable staff guides clients step by step through the development process, which includes incentive analysis, project management, coordination with local entities (neighborhood associations and government agencies) and linkage to research and planning resources (e.g. demographic information and maps.)
