While EDCKC informs and implements the City of Kansas City, Missouri’s economic development policy, staff professionals also proactively advance initiatives that in the short- or long-term impact business development, job creation and retention to assure a diverse economy and enhance quality of life.
In recent years, these initiatives have included the early-stage capital program LaunchKC that has awarded $1.5M in grant money to date; and the Blue River Valley Industrial Corridor, a long-term economy and ecology restoration vision that is reconnecting this historic industrial employment center to its surrounding neighborhoods while reviving the environmental and recreational health of the Blue River.
In September 2017, an Urban Land Institute (ULI) Advisory Services Panel presented its report that EDCKC sponsored on the future of the interstate on the north side of the Central Business District as part and parcel of evaluations underway of the Buck O’Neil (Broadway) Bridge.
Also underway is a new program called KC.UP, an effort to build an inclusive future of work and entrepreneurial ecosystem. The KC.UP program has seen great initial momentum that will continue in the form of skills development, entrepreneurship support and accelerator programming.
