Boulevard Brewing Co. purchased and completely transformed the four-story, 87-year-old Skelly Oil building located at 2534 Madison Avenue into a new Tours & Recreation Center, located immediately adjacent to the brewing campus. The first floor now consists of an “Experience” area with exhibits about the history of beer and breweries. An expanded gift shop offers a large variety of Boulevard goods. In the back is an expanded tasting room for end-of-tour samples which seats over 100 visitors.
The 10,000 square foot second floor is the Beer Hall that seats up to 300 people indoors and another 100 people on the outdoor deck where visitors can see amazing views of the downtown skyline. The Beer Hall offers a wide variety of Boulevard beers as well as food from local and regional specialty food companies. Guests may visit the beer hall to eat, drink and relax even if they don’t take a tour of the brewery.
This project not only provided rehabilitation and adaptive reuse of an existing historic building in downtown Kansas City but also created new jobs. Boulevard hired 40 new employees to staff their new Tours & Recreation Center.
