As part of the Pioneer Plaza Tax Increment Financing Plan, approved by the City Council in 2020, EDCKC was proud to participate in the grand opening of a new 48,500 square-foot Price Chopper on Bannister Road. The full-service grocery, including a pharmacy, is now open to area residents. The project also included other site improvements including the construction of a new surface parking lot, added exterior lighting, signage and more.
“This grocery store is great for the city and a great step towards solving the problem of food deserts in our community,” said Fifth District City Councilmember Lee Barnes.
Councilmember Ryana Parks-Shaw, also of the Fifth District, highlighted the positive impacts to the neighborhoods of the district.
“This is a nice addition to the community. In addition to providing easier access to expanded healthy food options, this new grocery store will provide additional jobs to the community. They have hired 70 individuals who live in the community. Through their collaboration with the Hickman Mills School district, 25 of those new hires are students.”
