The Economic Development Corporation of Kansas City, Missouri has announced a new partnership with Junior Achievement of Greater Kansas City to inspire Kansas City kids. EDCKC’s investment in the Junior Achievement organization will create economic opportunity and mobility for Junior Achievement kids visiting JA BizTown, presented by CommunityAmerica Credit Union.
“At EDCKC, we’re all about striving to achieve economic prosperity,” said Steven Anthony, EDCKC Executive Director of Business Development. “And to have the opportunity to impact young people who will be the future leaders of our local and regional economy is a great opportunity.”
When KC youth visit JA BizTown, they get to practice adult responsibilities like earning a paycheck and making purchasing, savings, and charitable decisions. Children learn how their individual actions contribute to a thriving, interconnected community. JA BizTown also shows kids the value of supporting local businesses. JA BizTown’s storefronts exclusively feature organizations founded or headquartered in the greater Kansas City region.
“It is so important for local corporations to invest in experiences that show young people the opportunities right in their backyard. The Economic Development Corporation of Kansas City within JA BizTown will help students see the importance of small businesses in our community and that they make Kansas City a great place to be,” shared Kate Hood, Junior Achievement Director of Programs and Experiences.
The EDCKC partnership with Junior Achievement is part of a growing community trend towards embracing the real-world learning opportunities that Junior Achievement provides in Kansas City.
Junior Achievement celebrated the grand opening of JA BizTown Presented by CommunityAmerica Credit Union in June of 2021. The capstone experience is a daylong real-world simulation for young people in grades 4-6 which empowers kids to practice what they’ve learned during JA Pathways classroom programs. JA BizTown is housed alongside two other experiential learning programs for kids – the JA Innovation Center and JA Career Center – within the Junior Achievement Youth Learning Lab Presented by the Mallouk Family Foundation.
