The Courtyard & Residence Inn Kansas City Downtown/Convention Center is a brand new 10-story, 261 room, 190,000 sq ft hotel complex located in the Crossroads Art District. The $50 million project includes 5,000 sq ft of retail space and a 4-story, 156 space parking garage designed for hotel guests with spaces available for public use. The construction project created 125 new jobs.
The Courtyard property occupies the north part of the block bounded by Truman Road and 16th Street, Baltimore and Main Street, and the Residence Inn, the south part. The hotel complex is within walking distance of the Power & Light District, Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, Sprint Center and Kansas City Convention Center and is conveniently located on the Kansas City Streetcar line.
Chartwell made the decision to fund the development privately. The developer, Chartwell Hospitality, did not seek any tax abatement or other development subsidies to complete this project.
