Redbridge Shopping Center Undergoes Redevelopment

In KC News, Redevelopment by EDCKC Staff

Over 60 years ago, the JC Nichols Company developed the Red Bridge Shopping Center as a neighborhood shopping destination at the intersection of Holmes Road and Red Bridge Road in South Kansas City, MO. Today, Lane4 Property Group, Inc. is leading a massive $19 million transformation of the shopping center in an effort to revitalize the surrounding community and attract new businesses and jobs.

Lane4 Property Group, Inc. invited city officials and community members to their official groundbreaking back in May 2016, and announced Euston Hardware, Blue Bicycle Fitness Center, and Sofi Cucina Italiana Restaurant would be the first tenants to move in.

Brandon Buckley, Vice President of LANE4, said the shopping center was long overdue for an overhaul.

“We are excited to update and remodel the property to a level that fits in with the quality of the surrounding neighborhoods and schools,” said Buckley. “Our objective is to bring the shopping center back to its glory days when it was a staple in the neighborhood, and all of South Kansas City for that matter!”

Once complete, the 150,000 square foot Red Bridge Shopping Center will feature an updated facade with coastal-inspired architecture, new roofs and parking lots, and fresh landscaping.

“Red Bridge will be safe, clean, beautiful, cool and convenient,” said Buckley. “All these elements are essential not only for the retailers but for the vibrancy of the surrounding neighborhoods.”

Buckley is excited to see the shopping center grow and bring jobs to the South Kansas City area. The three new tenants will occupy one-third of the available space and are expected to attract additional businesses to the center.

Euston Hardware was a Red Bridge tenant 20 years ago, and owner Kevin Euston is excited to bring his family’s business back to the shopping center this fall. The hardware store will occupy 15,000 square feet on the west side of the center.

Blue Bicycle Fitness Center is currently open but owner Jan Schmidt has plans to remodel and double their space to 12,000 square feet. Schmidt wants to bring a “neighborhood gym” atmosphere to the community by offering a variety of fitness services such as personal training and yoga and will now have the additional room she needs to make that happen.

Finally, Sofi Cucica Italiana Restaurant will offer Italian dining with fresh pastas made in-house, and a combination of local talent, unique interior design, and an abundance of other delicious foods. Chef Alex Staab is working with Back Napkin Restaurant Group to design and create a unique, family-friendly restaurant the community will enjoy. Staab plans to open the restaurant in early 2017.
