So glad we could be a part of TapTeach this past weekend! The back to school app fest at the Google Fiber lounge brought together educators, designers and developers – all collaborating and creating new educational applications right here in Kansas City. At least 40 attendees showed up for the all day event with 20 educators from area school districts, including KCMO, KCK, NKC, Smithville, Lee’s Summit, Blue Valley, South Callaway, JCCC, UMKC, Park University and Liberty.
Attendees formed seven teams to spend the day working on design, scopes and prototypes for seven unique apps.
Here are the newly created apps:
1. ParConn – Connecting Teachers and Parents, the app gave educators a proactive solution in contacting parents.
2. Axcel – A social gaming app that scored, shared and gave improvements to sentence structure.
3. Animated Writing – An app focused on giving children the power to turn their creative writing into animated story books.
4. Homework+ – An app allowing teachers to populate a planner style application for student and parent use in obtaining homework and test information; including late and upcoming work
5. pARTs of Speech – The app is a language game that allows students to learn basic parts of speech (English) and how those can relate to semantic programming languages.
6. Phonics for K – A phonetics based game that demonstrates proper placement of tongue and mouth shapes to produce proper speech development.
7. HippoStream – A news aggregator app focused to deliver current and upcoming events for current students of universities.
