During Global Entrepreneur Week, Kansas City joined 33 cities across the globe as a partner of the international Big Data Festival. With over 25,000 participants in over a dozen countries, the conversation stretched from Sydney to Shanghai, Delhi to Dublin. Sponsored by Launch KC, this was the first year Kansas City stepped onto the world Big Data stage to add its unique voice to the global conversation.
Big Data Kansas City included scientists, visualizers, architects, researchers, engineers, experts, beginners, professors and learners. The conference focused on the challenges and opportunities presented by the growth of Big Data and how Kansas City can continue to expand its role intellectually and economically in the field.
With nearly 300 participants, the two-day event was held at the Kansas City Convention Center. Top-of-their-field speakers from IBM, Sprint and DST Systems led the discussion at the event, which included a civic data hackathon. The best and brightest of Kansas City’s digital makers and doers joined together and raised Kansas City’s global profile.
Following the successful Big Data KC conference, Launch KC celebrated its first year with a celebration at the Bauer in the heart of the Crossroads. Lead by Pete Fullerton – President of the Economic Development Corporation of Kansas City and Mayor Pro-Tem Cindy Circo, the event highlighted the outstanding work Launch KC has done over the last year to change how the EDC works to recruit entrepreneurs.
