Launched at the beginning of this year, the EDC’s International Business Initiative has kept the newly appointed Coordinator, Narbeli Galindo, busy ensuring more international investments are made in local Kansas City, Missouri companies.
Here’s what’s been happening with international business in KCMO:
The Strategic Investment Summit
On September 29th, 2015, Galindo will be representing Kansas City at the Strategic Investment Summit in Frankfurt, Germany. Galindo plans to showcase Kansas City, Missouri as an important city of entrance to the United States to over 100 German companies who will be attending. During the event, there will be a match-making presentation and networking opportunity with several high level executives from German companies looking to invest in United States businesses.
Galindo has been working with the German Consul (Rolf Snyder and Patrick Wong) on prospect companies to meet before and after the event, and will prepare special information packets for them at the trade show. There will also be a general exhibition space where KCMO collateral will be displayed for all attendees.
Collaborations with the North American Global Success Club
Galindo was interviewed this past June by Jordan Lindell-Schmitt, Communications Officer and Community North American Representative of the Global Success Club, about why the largest city in Missouri is a good place for international companies to invest.
In the interview, Galindo highlights Missouri as one of the top 10 business-friendly states in America for manufacturing, with 9.4% of the state’s total employment in the manufacturing industry. Galindo also discussed the many types of services the EDC offers to companies who invest in KCMO, such as workforce training programs and grant programs to incentivize job creation in the local community. Collaboration With The Mexican Consulate
Galindo regularly keeps in contact with local Kansas City Mexican Consul, Elizabeth Kerber, attending frequent meetings and calls with her. Recently, Galindo was invited to a meeting with ProMexico, as they have an interest in strengthening the relationship between KCMO and Mexico through exports and imports.
The Mexican consulate has several functions:
1.) Issuing Passports/Visas
2.) Assisting with business Certifications
3.) Overall US and Mexico business trading assistance and permits and much more!
